Here at Hammerstead, we maintain a flock of various breeds of sheep, including Scottish Blackface, Horned Dorset, Texiles, Corridales, and Lincoln Longwools. Our current flock has fifteen animals, all of which are for our breeding program. All of our sheep are raised - no feedlots, preventative antibiotics or other obnoxious factory farming practices here: we believe in treating our animals right and allowing them to live and grow naturally. Not only does this reflect an understanding of the relationship between man and his livestock, it's also much more enviromentally friendly and produces better fleece and other products. Our sheep are hand sheared each spring - this eliminates most "double cuts", and produces a much cleaner, more workable fleece. Lambs are usually available in spring as well. If you're interested in our sheep, fleece or other fiber products, you can click here to sign up for our announcement mailing list: we'll post a message to this list when we have product available, or just contact us to see what we have available at the moment or to place an order/arrange shipping.
