Hammerstead Happenings - July 2005

Greetings from Hammerstead Farms!

The last few weeks have been the busiest we've ever been here at Hammerstead! We were fortunate enough to be listed in the Trader's Point Creamery newsletter three weeks ago - if you've contacted us about delivery and haven't gotten a phone call or back email yet, please bear with us - the response have been overwhelming! I'm working through the inquiries as fast as I can, but there's really only one of me, and I've got the farm to take care of as well!

We are now delivering every Tuesday to Boone County and NW Indianapolis, including Pike and Washington townships. In terms of neighborhoods, right now we can take care of Broad Ripple, Ravenswood, Rocky Ripple, Meridian Hills and the Kesslar area and points north and west. If you're in these areas and are interested in home delivery, by all means get in touch.

We've gotten a great many inquiries from the Carmel/Fishers/Geist area, as well as from Brownsburg/Danville/Pittsboro, but not quite enough in either area to begin regular deliveries. If you're in these areas and are interested in home delivery of our eggs, Trader's Point products or Breadsmith's bread, please drop us a note. It'll only take about 5 or six more customers in each area to trigger some serious planning for delivery on our part.

In partnership with Miller Stock Farms we've been putting together a traveling petting zoo: goats, llamas, sheep, calves, chickens, turkeys have been visiting various Vacation Bible Schools and other venues in the area where kids can get some hands on time with real farm animals. Let us know if you're planning an event for kids and would like a visit from the farm!

Which reminds me - we always welcome visitors here at the farm as well! Drop me a note if you're interested in coming up and chasing chickens!

We still have a few fleeces left for $20/ea., including shipping via UPS anywhere in the US. Let me know as soon as possible if you'd like to order one - they're going fast!

We expect to take a two head of cattle to slaughter sometime in August. Look for another missive from the list shortly before it's available. We will deliver any order over 200 lbs of Highland beef anywhere in the continental US for an extra $1 or $2 per pound, depending on your distance from Indiana (sorry, California, but towing a trailer full of frozen beef over the Rockies takes some expensive gasoline).

We have a couple of cow horns available now as well as some shed reindeer antler a few ewe horns and some bone - contact me if you're interested in these craft items.

Thanks again for your interest in (and patronage of) Hammerstead - we're really excited about our farm, and hope to continue serving you in the future.

Be well,

Dave Haxton
