Greetings from Hammerstead Farms!
Well, it has been a very busy few months here in beautiful Dover, Indiana, and a lot of things have changed at Hammerstead.
Cutting right to the chase, we have changed the focus of our operations to chicken and egg production - we still have our herd of Highland cattle, but we have sold our flock of Blackface sheep! Consequently, we are no longer in the fleece business, although we still have about 20 Suffolk/Mixed fleeces available, and about 6 or 7 Blackie fleeces.
We're selling our remaining fleeces for $20/ea., including shipping via UPS anywhere in the US. At this price, these are sure to sell quick, so let me know as soon as possible if you'd like to order one.
We started home delivery of eggs in Boone County this past January, and that certainly made things busy around here. Just last week we added milk and bread to our delivery route, and are hoping to expand our route into northwestern Marion County (Indianapolis) by next month.
We have redesigned the website to reflect these changes, and added a sign up form for home delivery.
We have also started selling our beef by the quarter nationally - we don't have any available right now, but expect to take a steer to slaughter sometime in July or early August. Look for another missive from the list shortly before it's available. We will deliver any order over 200 lbs of Highland beef anywhere in the continental US for an extra $1 or $2 per pound, depending on your distance from Indiana (sorry, California, but towing a trailer full of frozen beef over the Rockies takes some expensive gasoline).
We have a couple of cow horns available now as well as some shed reindeer antler - contact me if you're interested in these craft items.
Thanks again for your interest in (and patronage of) Hammerstead - we're really excited about our farm, and hope to continue serving you in the future.
Be well,
Dave Haxton
